I bought the 4 1/4" clock insert to replace a clock that we have had for around 20 years. After 15 years, the original insert stopped working. Since then, I've replaced it with two inserts I've gotten from different suppliers. The first lasted 4 years, the second lasted less than two years. The problem with inserts is that if the clock movement fails, the inserts are hard to disassemble for repair. These replacement inserts have been all plastic and kind of cheaply made. The Bear Woods insert will be my third replacement. It seems well made - glass lens, brass. Only "time" will tell how many years the clock movement will last, but so far I am pleased. It looks great, kind of antique-like, and fits our decor perfectly.

Although I haven't set the clock into a ship's helm clock I'm making it seems to be a very high quality clock.
I didn't realize that Bear Woods is in Canada (I'm in USA) when I ordered the clock.I feared the package and clock movement would be damaged at Canadian/USA customs as I've had problems with international shipments in the past. My fears were ended when I got the package in pristine shape as if it came from next door!
I would buy from Bear Woods and highly recommend then to anyone who needs any of their products!

Staff most interested, and very helpful.Clock insert sent was exactly the size and shape needed. Delivery prompt and arrived very well packaged. The clock sizing was recommended after I sent pictures, not knowing myself just what to order Spoke via phone to three different staff and after those conversations they all should receive 100% for their customer service. Only wish there were more companies with such a caring attitude. Thanks!

The only thing I can say now is it is a nice looking clock. That's why I bought two of them. The carvings the inserts go in are not complete yet. I can't tell you how they run and if they keep accurate time. I will update my review when I get them running. I have only had the inserts for a few days. It did take 10 + days to receive the order.

I love the great selection available from Bear Woods. The insert fit perfectly for the outside but had to epoxy it into place because the hole only just smaller than the exterior rim. I knew this would be an issue when I ordered the insert therefore no surprises.

Looks good and runs well.

Clock has the classic look I wanted. Perfect size. I knew there would be an issue with the circumference of the opening it had to fit into so I used weather stripping to make up the difference. This allows me to remove clock to replace battery.

We ordered a new small face clock to put into a propeller blade that my hubbyâ€™s father made years ago. It fits perfectly. We had to do a little mod to get it to stay in place as the center of the propeller was too deep. But we made it work.

Tips

Install a FRESH Duracell or Energizer Battery (But not a rechargeable type). In our experience, these are the only batteries that are reliable for clock mechanisms. If that doesn't work, also try a battery from a separate pack - this seems to help on many occasions too.

Our soft gasket mounting system allows you some flexibility about the size of the actual mounting hole. You can adapt these new inserts to a 1/8 inch larger hole size by removing the soft rubber gasket, and wrapping the back of the insert with plumbers Teflon tape or electrical tape to “build up” the back of these insert clocks. Then re install the soft rubber gasket to adapt to fit a larger mounting hole.
