Scroll saw suncatcher

Here is David's entry and a story he shared below about the project.

Attached is a scroll-saw project that was in the making for over 5 years.  The stain glass images is in real life above the altar in the chapel. It's probably 15 plus feet across. That was my first problem, trying to get a good picture. Taking it from the ground level created a distorted image that I could not fix.

Finally I did get a Jpeg image from the church. Now I had some thing to work with. It took several tries to get to the image to look like a stain glass.  First I picked the wrong wood which was also too thick. Once I  got the wood and thickness correct then I tried using transparency (view foil)  to get stain glass effect. View foils are meant to be viewed from a reflective screen not through the material. I found a laminated paper that reproduced the stain glass pretty close. It needed some kind of hanger which took several false start but finally I settled on some 3 mm  Jute cord that finished the edge and created the hanger. Success at last.

To give you and idea of scale:  The sun-catcher diameter is 5 inches and Jesus is 2.5 inches from crown to toe.

Bottom line: Don't give up. Set it aside and new ideas will come along.  With time and patience you can get to the hidden treasure you were looking to create.
